Katie The Science of Seeing Again

RAFT and The Katie Piper Foundation are the joint beneficiaries of the forthcoming Soulful Concert taking place in Fleet Street on 8th February. Both charities are working to help those affected by major skin traumas, and RAFT is pleased to be developing a relationship with Katie’s Foundation, set up to make is easier to live with burns and scars.

 

Model, Katie Piper was badly disfigured and partially blinded after being attacked with acid in 2008. In a new documentary she explores the science behind the an operation which could potentially transform her life, it involves new cutting edge science which could revolutionise the world of medicine.

 

This new documentary is going to be shown on Channel 4 tomorrow (Tuesday 7th February) at 9pm. It is entitled Katie The Science of Seeing Again and shows her having her 110th operation, using controversial cutting-edge science, which could truly transform her life, providing her with the only chance of seeing again through her badly damaged left eye. After spending three and a half years struggling to accept that she would forever be blind in one eye, she heard about pioneering surgery that could potentially restore her sight using the extraordinary power of stem cells. Katie has put herself forward to be one of the few people in the world to undergo the treatment, which entails transplanting stem cells directly into her eye.
